writeWrite – Just Do It!

“All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim; have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible.” ~ Orison Swett Marden

What do you aspire to be? Me? Well I aspire to be a lot of things. One thing in particular is to become a successful published author in the urban fiction genre. Success doesn’t happen overnight, and if it does, it’s definitely rare.

I used to write when I was a teenager. I went to a performing arts high school and took up the major of creative writing. Back then, as a teenager, I didn’t set any goals for myself as it pertained to writing. I was just trying to get through high school. Now, as a wife and mother, I wish I had taken my writing seriously back then. But one thing I do know is that it is never too late to use your talent and craft.

writeWe all have something inside of us to give to the world. With some it’s singing, others it’s dancing or acting, and then there’s those of us who write. Writing is such a therapeutic gift and talent. Sometimes, people are discouraged from writing because some will say there’s not much money to be made from it unless you’re well known like Terry McMillan, Eric Jerome Dickey, Steve Harvey, Zane and many others. Even reality television stars like those Kardashian girls are getting book deals left and right simply because of the public platform that they stand on.

Well I’m here to tell you that you too can pursue your dreams in writing. Nothing in this world is ever too high to reach or too hard to obtain. Someone out there will read your writing and feel empowered by it, inspired by it and motivated by it. And if you’re able to profit from it, make a good living with it; even better! There are so many writing opportunities out there to get you to the finish line. I myself, had reservations of taking this step in my life and pursuing my dream as a writer. But every day I connect with people who share my same passion and it motivates me. I see other successful urban fiction authors with a large following of fans and readers and it stirs that drive in me to keep going.

Write every day. Every single day. Five minutes, 20 minutes, even hours. Whatever is in you to do, do it.  Don’t let your talent, your gift go to waste.
