Beta Copy Reader
Receives partial or complete manuscript with the intent of looking over the material to find and improve elements such as grammar and spelling, as well as suggestions to improve the story, its characters, or its setting. Beta reading is typically done before the story is released for public consumption. Beta readers are not explicitly proofreaders or editors, but can serve in that context.
Advance Copy Reader
Receives an advance copy of the manuscript, (prior to publication but usually close to the final draft) in exchange for a free and honest review upon release.
Review Copy Reader
Receives a final draft, post publication, in exchange for a free an honest review. Review is usually posted on the likes of Amazon, as well as the reviewer’s own website or blog.
